Well.... after almost 1 year of running all over this city, hauling gear and people, and recording in dingy dank basements in the lovely Strathcona neighborhood, we finally got this album out. Last night at The Velvet Underground in Edmonton exceeded all of my expectations. So many amazing people came out to support, and I am deeply indebted to all of you. THANK YOU FROM THE DEPTHS OF MY SOUL. To be very honest, my pessimism gets the best of me all too often, and I didn’t know what to expect. Nonetheless...
LOVERTINE opened the night up with a kick ass rock set that had everyone shaking their timid appendages on the imaginary sidelines of the dance floor. Man these guys are good. Let’s get them doing some more shows around town. I know I’d love to share a bill with them again!!....
.....Then my nervous anxiety latched on tight to my larynx and held me hostage for the first few tunes of the first set, but after the band settled in, it was smooth sailing. I wish I could play with those folks all the time. Thanks Idris, Stu, Jacquie, Sarah, John, Megan, and Dave. You made the music sing like it never has before!!!
Jesse Dee
And now a few words from Jacquie.......
hi! first off I wanna thank Lovertine for kickin off the soiree!!! oh Ido... I just your moves!!! the kicks are adorable! *she swoons* and thank-you for the after-party songs too... let’s do it again some time!
so thank-you to everyone - friends and family - who came out to support last night! wow! you dudes were awesome and it warmed my heart to see you there. like Jesse, I too was sofa king nervous those first few songs... I mean, this is something I have never really DONE before, you know? and so the lights and you guys and the band just got to me and I felt like I was in the twilight zone er something! haha but then I looked around to see all your smiling faces (and hearing Liz screaming out: J BO! J BO!) and I felt an overwhelming love just come over me like a nice flannel security blanket, feet tucked in and all cozy. I just loved it.
singing with Jesse has really been a beautiful trip and this chapter of my life is the most exciting yet. and thing is, I don’t feel like this is the top! feels like this is the beginning of something wonderful... and I’m ready for whatever is to come. and so’s Mr. Dee! Come on Universe! show us what you got, you crazy lady!
so my thank-yous extend to everyone, but I would like to mention a few names in particular. to my brother Jeremy and sister-in-law Ashley for stepping out into edmonton’s social scene and supporting their big sis! means a lot. to MILLER! haha for dancing! for stapling a merch sign to your hound’s tooth dress (SO HOT!!) and selling discs on the floor! for bringin out the Miller gang! LOVE!!! you were a hit, as per usual! to nicola, liz, steve, michelle (both of you!), michael, laurelle, allison, etc. SO AWESOME to see everyone!!!
*she blows kisses and sends out a million cyber bear hugs to everyone*
Jesse wants you all to know that since he’s not as used to blogging as I am, it doesn’t mean he’s not as thankful. don’t worry! the blogging talent will find it’s way to his eager fingertips as it did his incredible guitar playing :)
